Verizon Communications
Unethical and Unprofessional Hiring Practices

On Jan 13, a technical recruiter for Verizon contacted me about a job opening. I sent my Microsoft Word formatted resume to the recruiter and asked the resume be passed on to the manager, Peter Arreman. The recruiter emailed me to call Peter Arreman as soon as it was possible for me to do so.

On Jan 14, I called Peter Arreman. I introduced myself and said I was calling about the job opening the recruiter contacted me about. He said it was a bad time because he was in a meeting and asked if I could call him back later. I said ok. The recruiter called me half a hour later. I told him what happened. Since I had forgotten about an urgent errand I had to take care of, I asked the recruiter to reschedule the call with Peter Arreman for early afternoon. A few minutes later, the recruiter calls back and says that early afternoon is fine. When early afternoon arrives and I called Peter Arreman. Peter Arreman's phone rings but he doesn't answer and the call is transferred to voice mail. I left a voice mail for Peter Arreman to call me back. The recruiter calls me later in the afternoon. I tell him that I called Peter Arreman as was arranged but I got his voice mail. The recruiter later emails me that Peter Arreman interviewed a candidate after his morning meeting and hired him.

From his actions, Peter Arreman displayed unprofessional conduct by not having the courtesy of telling the recruiter or myself that he already found another applicant for the job opening.in addition, Peter Arreman didn't take the time to determine if I would be better candidate. Peter Arreman's unprofessionalism reflects poorly of Verizon and its employees. As a Verizon customer, I will telling my friends and coworkers this story and why I won't be doing business with Verizon in the future. When my Verizon phone contract comes up for renewal in next month, I will be choosing another company instead.
