I was a customer of Winco in Modesto, CA for 11 years with absolutely no problems. Moved to Hemet and went in to buy groceries. I was denied the use of my check because the name on my check, my nickname, which I have gone by since birth did not match exactly to name on driver's license. I was told to bring in proof that there were credit cards, etc with my nickname on them and it would be fixed. My husband and I went in wit numerous cards the next day and were told that since they do not match exactly I could not write checks there. Now mind you, the name I use is a direct derivative of my name - has two additional letters. They have my picture ID, cards with my nickname including CSAA auto insurance, State Farm Insurance, credit cards etc etc but nope they won't do it. Consequently we will no longer be shopping at Winco even though we might have to pay a higher price. Can't believe the stupidity of this whole thing. Would NOT recommend this Winco to anyone!!!
