And I would like to submit a complaint against C & M Riley, Inc., 5527 W. Colonial Dr. Orlando, FL 32808. My complaint is as follows:

On 11/19, my son who is a full time student attending at College in Orlando took his 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck into C & M Riley, Inc. For a vibration problem. He was informed that the vehicle needed three new u-joints and one new drive shaft center bearing and there was an issue with the thermostat. And, they recommended that “only factory parts” be used on his vehicle. He authorized the u-joints and driveshaft bearing and elected to postpone the thermostat repair. The vehicle was kept for three days and the bill $521.10. I tried to pay over the phone with my credit card and they refused to accept because I was not there in person. So the bill was paid with my son’s debit card as he did not have a credit card available to him. I had to transfer funds to his debit card to cover the cost of the repairs as he did not have sufficient funds available to him.

Immediately upon picking up the vehicle from C & M Riley, my son returned to Punta Gorda for Thanksgiving, approximately 1 hour and 30 min driving time. During his trip home, the vehicle began experiencing severe vibrations similar to those the vehicle was having p him to stop along the road to have it inspected and/or repaired. When he got home, he had dinner with his grandfather, as were we were out of state for the week, took my vehicle and returned to school. When I got home, I took his truck to our mechanic to our local mechanic, Josh Murray @ Mr. Front End, Punta Gorda, Florida, whom we have used for all our maintenance issues for approximately ten years. Here is a list of what was found:

A: Caps on U-Joints improperly installed (several)
B: Retainer Clips missing on U-Joints (several)
C: Drive Shaft Carrier bearing was not properly pressed onto shaft
D: Grease Fittings had not been serviced as required (those that “were installed”)
E. Grease Fittings missing (several)
F. Missing Needle Bearings (several)
G. Factory OE Parts were charge for but not used

My son, contacted Stan, (manager) of C&M Riley, Inc. The first week of December and informed him that the work had been done improperly and requested a refund of the $521.10. Stan refused the refund and explained that if there was a problem, he should have returned the vehicle back to him for the repair and then it would have been covered under warranty. Wesley explained that he left the truck at his parents’ house to have repaired as he had to return to school. Further he explained that with the extent of the improper repairs it would have been dangerous to try to drive the vehicle back to Orlando a drive of 130 miles.

On January 2nd I contacted Stan, the manager. He informed me that that if the U-joints had been improperly installed, the vehicle would have never been able to operate sufficiently to drive off the property. Further he stated that if my son would have returned the vehicle to his facility, the vehicle would have been covered under warranty. I explained that I have sufficient experience with vehicles, up to and including the personally installing U-Joints. Further I would never allow my son to take an “UNSAFE VEHICLE” on the road 130 miles in order to have the vehicle covered under a warranty!

I demand a full refund of the $ 521.10 from C & M Riley, Inc. Anything less is unacceptable. Should the Better Business Bureau be unable to settle this matter, we fully intend to seek legal action though the Small Claims Court System and to engage the Television Media to get the word out of this company’s unscrupulous business practices. I believe my son was taken advantage of as a young college student. His truck was improperly repaired. He was charged for “Factory OE Parts” and these were not used. I have attached pictures of the improper repairs as taken by Mr. Front End. I have attached a written letter to support this claim from our mechanic, from Mr. Front End. I attached a copy of the repair receipt from C & M Riley, Inc. I have highlighted the warranty which states: “If you are within 40 miles or 70 KM, You must return vehicle to AAMCO center where warranty was issued. Further, by refusing to accept his parent’s credit card over the phone, C & M Riley eliminated the options to do a credit card dispute over the repairs.

Thank you
