Thieves won't return security deposit

I rented a luxury condo from them for 5 years and finally had to move out last week when they tried increasing my rent by $300 in one year. They were in a rush to get the keys back for a "new tenant" that was moving in on Wednesday (the reason for the quotation marks is because there never was, nor is there actually a tenant), so I didn't even get to do a walkthrough in my unit with them. They said they would do a walkthrough on their own since I could not be there 9-5 (I work and I already had to take 2 days off from work to move so I did not want to push it). I thought it would not be a big deal, as the apartment was in excellent condition.

Because of the fact I was not present, for all I know, they grabbed a hammer and broke the appliances or god knows what to justify keeping my $2,000 deposit. They initially said to provide my address for the refund of my deposit, but now they have changed their tune. Their claim is that they needed the $2,000 deposit to paint and clean. Yea, um, no painter and cleaner will cost $2,000 even if they hail from Beverly Hills!

As I mentioned, the apartment was in excellent condition and only needed to be mopped as I even swept the place up. I was subjected to no air conditioning for a week prior to move out and they did NOTHING to alleviate my situation (no offer to buy me a fan, and they claimed every motel in Miami was booked so they could not help me, I call b.S. On that considering how many motels are in Miami), nor are they giving me credit for the suffering.

Prior to that, I had no dryer for about 6 months, and for about a year, no shower door so that my bathroom kept flooding every time the shower was used (the shower was at a diagonal angle and was too big for any shower rod to fit; Home Depot was unable to offer a custom rod).

I paid top dollar to live in this place and kept the place immaculate. Several friends, relatives, and neighbors, who have seen my place, will attest to that. To add insult to injury, they want to claim the painting (of a 1,200 sq ft unit, mind you) and the cleaning actually went OVER my $2,000 deposit and they are ASKING ME TO REIMBURSE THEM $19.70. Are you kidding me? Talk about cheap and tacky. Do they think I was born yesterday? Not only do I refuse to pay them that amount, but I feel they have no right to these bogus excuses to keep my deposit. Seems they are notorious for that though, and I will never again do business with these slumlords. There ought to be some law that forbids fat cats like them from getting away with their crimes.

I am due my deposit and will fight for it. I would love to hear from others in the same situation, and to find out what they did to recoup their funds. Apparently, there are several in the same boat when it comes to Cervera refusing to refund security deposits so please do share.
