Scott Gonzales advertised on Craigslist for a 1 bedroom condominium in Waikiki, Hawaii. He asked for a wire transfer in the amount of $660 to "hold" the reservation, which I sent to him. He then asked for the remaining amount of the rental—approximately $400, to "pay for renovations" in the apartment. I did not send him this, and told him that according to our contract, the balance was not due until I arrived at the property. We have not heard from him since, and we are now left without lodging for our vacation with our 2 little girls in two weeks. He is obviously a well-seasoned scam artist, as he provided me with two "references" of past renters—obviously fake as well. We will be pursing legal action with our local police department as well as the FBI.
