Scanner Rebate Rip-off

I purchase a Umax Scanner Astra 2000U at Best Buy in Dec 1999 with a rebate coupon which I mail in before the deadline 1/31.

I received a postcard rejection due to postmark date. I mailed the rebate 4 days before the deadline. Now Umax wants proof of me mailing it before the deadline.

How do you prove you mailed a rebate before the deadline unless you register mail it - which I did not.

The rebate ID is 2283525. I have till 4/29 to respond. There address is Invalids Dept 753 PO Box 615, Coppell, Tx 75019 888-724-9273. What can I do? Scotty Bake
