Coolwebsearch, a particularly nasty-seeming spyware program, downloaded itself on my computer and began to wreak havoc. It hijacked my homepage to www.0websearch.com and would close internet explorer with error messages if i tried to go to my sites. Also, it severely reduced my connection speed, leading me to believe that it was facillitating another remote connection and transfering information.
Luckily, i was able to download Ad Aware SE Personal (although very slowly since my connection was so weak) and run it, thereby deleting the offending programs and lots of other ones that had made their way into my computer. My internet began to function normally and at an acceptable speed. I thought i had won! But it was too soon...
The next day, not only do i see that good old coolwebsearch is back, but Ad Aware SE is malfunctioning and refuses to perform scans! It seems as though coolwebsearch has attacked my defense program in an attempt to have full, unhindered access to my vulnerable hard drive. I hear it processing in the background even as i type this SOS.
Can anything be done about this? Has anyone out there had any experience with coolwebsearch? And have any of you come out of it alive? Do i have any hope?
