McAfee AntiVirus Plus
Ineffective PC Protection

I have been a McAfee subscriber for over six years. I have McAfee VirusPlus installed on two computers. Twice I have had major problems explaining to the customer service people how to set up my account, which should have told me these people simply can't handle anything out of the ordinary.

Last week, the software failed to catch a "trojan" that ended up crashing my computer. Although I was able to effect a temporary fix, the trojan returned a few days later and I had to call McAfee. I spent over 3 hours on the phone. None of the five people I spoke with was helpful. All were rude and all demanded that I pay $89.95 for a "free" program that would fix the problem. Even though they admitted it was their product's fault, they would not stand by it and repeatedly demanded that $89.95. Their customer service promise of total satisfaction is empty. I guess they figured if they asked me for it often enough eventually I'd give in. I didn't.

They only admitted it was their fault after they first tried to get me to agree that it was a problem with my Internet provider, until I told them I had another computer running on that same ISP. Then they tried to tell me it was from games I downloaded, until I told them I have NEVER EVER downloaded a game from the Internet and I've been active on the Internet for over 20 years. I do not go to unsafe websites, and I obey all McAfee warnings.

The sixth person I spoke with told me he would email me a free fix from the McAfee website and that all I needed to do was download it to a jump drive, then run it on the infected computer. I did that, and it didn't work. It came with no directions, no explanation at all. And when I tried to call back to get assistance, their offices were closed. 6:00 P.M. And a virus protection software shuts down their customer service? What kind of business is that?

Needless to say, once I get this trojan off my computer, I will cancel my McAfee subscription. I may end up paying someone else to clean this thing up, but I most assuredly will not pay McAfee another dime.
