In October of last year I was contacted by this company telling me I qualified for a computer, even with the credit I had. I was told that if I acted "that day" I would recieve a free printer and digital camera, all I had to do was give them $99.
I gave them the money and it took 3 weeks before I got anything from them and this was only after numerous phone calls and complaints. Finally on the Saturday after Thanksgiving I got the lease in the mail and immediately faxed it back to the number I was given. Ten days later I am sending e-mail after e-mail trying to find out where my computer is. I was told several times that it would be in the next few days... On and on and on.
Finally, I get a letter after Christmas telling me that my credit score had changed and that I needed another $350 before I could get a computer. I argued that nothing had changed and got copies of my credit reports proving that nothing had been changed in the last sixty days. Still they argued that they used some kind of scoring system internally. I thought this was crap and told them I was promised a computer months ago and I wanted it and that they were not getting another $350. They agreed to $150 and I gave it to them, expecting my computer within a couple of weeks.
E-mails and phone calls again and again gave me different stories as to where the computer was. When I finally start calling Gateway (where the computer supposedly is from), I am told by Gateway that there was no order for me, PCDirect or James Cook. (James Cook had told me it was under his name and not mine or the companies... What a liar!) That night I get a call from James Cook yelling at me for calling Gateway (I guess Gateway called him after my inquiry). He said that the lease indicated that they could change the type of computer without my consent and that I would be getting an IBM... I said fine, but that I was not going to wait much longer. I immediately called IBM and they had no idea what I was talking about. They had never heard of James Cook or PCDirect. I called James Cook back and he had a fit... I had no right questioning him and contacting these people... On and on.
Finally after many, many e-mails and phone calls I got my computer... in MARCH!!!
But the bullshit wasn't over yet. I have yet to recieve the camera and was told by James Cook that the company they were running the promotion with "ran out" and that this promo was only "while supplies last". He said they had them back in October when I first applied. What a liar!!!
I complained until I finally got the printer... Get this... It was delivered from Walmart at a cost of $39.96. When I complained to him, he said I was told I would get a printer... He didn't say it would be a decent one. What an asshole!
The best is yet to come... I was told my payments would be $65 per month and that the payments would be deducted according to what I had indicated on the lease... Which was the 15th of the month AND I had been told that I would have 60 days before the payments were due. Well in their book 60 days had already passed since I filled out the paperwork and payments started in April... Not 60 days after I received the computer... Like I was told they would. Then all of a sudden, they start deducting payments weekly... When I complained they said they had a new accounting system and that was the way it was going to be and if I didn't like it I could return the computer and lose the money I had already put into it.
So I purposely didn't deposit money into the account I was using and one week the payment bounced...
I did it on purpose and e-mailed and told them that if they put it back to monthly payments I would make sure the money was there. I got an e-mail tellng me that they had installed some kind of software on my computer that would allow them to sign into it and freeze it up so I couldn't use it. I think that they called it "Sure Pay" or something like that. I knew it was bullshit because the computer came directly from Gateway and I know Gateway didn't install it. I also had one of the guys from our IT department check it out and there is no such software installed. Another line of crap.
RUDENESS is their middle name. I have not been talked to by anyway like those people talked to me. I think the fact they thought I was stupid and was going to take it without fighting back made me the most mad.
Here is the kicker... I did not get the computer that was listed on my lease. I was told I would get a computer that retailed for $1,299.00 on my lease. Mind you I will end up paying over $1,700 when I am done. BUT if you go on the Gateway website and look up the retail price of the computer I got... It was $649.
So don't deal with these people. Contact he Better Business Bureau in Atlanta AND the Attorney General's office in Georgia.
