Ripoff Selling used computers with obsolete parts as "new"

I did business with Molly aka Mary Law, after moving to Washington and needing a new power supply box for my computer. I have felt we had a trusting relationship. I expressed interest in building my own pc, i needed a second pc since I home school two children.

She stated that she could build one much cheaper for me.in a hurry to get a pc i said ok. She spent nearly two weeks avoiding me by using caller id, after promising that she would have it finished within a week, i paid $325 in advance so she could "order parts". After about 3weeks, she finally answered the phone, by the way, her voice mail was always too full to leave a message, she said that the pc would be ready to pick up at her partner's newspaper office. (where we had dropped the money off originally).

We drove to the office, Mary did not show up, instead, a woman i had never met came and said she had my pc in her van. The pc that i got made me SICK. I am not fond of HP computer systems since they are so proprietary... Mary knows this. We joked at great length about various computer systems and hp was one we joked about often. The computer she sent me was an old, dirty, HP. Hoping that she had just put the Athlon into the HP case, i took it home. I ordered an Athlon, i told her i would be running Winxp on it, and i needed 128mb of ram. This computer was an HP, it would not boot, would not read the Windows cd, it had a 16x Cdrom which is obsolete now. (we are up to 56x now).

I called her, over and over for about a week. I left messages, no call back. Finally, she calls and says that she will "make it right". Again i expressed my unhappiness with the hp and the whole situation. I told her i needed that pc weeks ago. She said she would get right on it. We drove all the way to ocean shores again and returned the pc to her partner's office. We did not see Mary. She said she would have me a new system within a week. Another week went by of us attempting to reach her, leaving messages on her voice mail etc. Finally, she called us and said that she would have it ready on Wednesday or Thursday. No call.

Thursday afternoon i called her, she said that it would be ready Friday and to come later in the afternoon so she would have time to check it all out. She said she put a good processor in it. Friday, we drove back out to ocean shores, we were told to pick it up at her partner's office AGAIN. We got there around 3:45. A note on the door said that they would return at 2:00. We waited about an hour, went to a pay phone and called, at the first ring she answered, (never happens when i call from my house.) she said she didnt know where her partner was and to call back in ten minutes.

Angry, i had my husband call back after 15minutes. He did, she told him that her partner had called right after she and i had hung up, (yea) she told him that her partner would be there in a half an hour. Forty five minutes later, she pulls up. She hands us a box. No keyboard as promised, no mouse either. Glad to have it over with i went to buy a mouse. Came home, went to set up the system and found that it had an obsolete 5.5gig hard drive. These are not used any longer, basic systems use 40gigs at least. This hard drive was manufactured in 1998 which in computer time is light years back.

The it is a duron, not athlon as i had requested, the motherboard is a very cheap one, and no version of windows will load. She claimed this was a new system. It is not. It is worthless to us, a $325 paper weight was how it was described to me. IF i opt to put a new hard drive in, i will basically have a $450 pc that is only worth about $200. I have left a message on her voice mail tonite, as did my husband. I hate to think how she wwould do customers who a) are not friendly with her like i was, we had dinner at their home even. And b) who have no knowledge of computers.

I hope that any updates that i might add to this will be satisfactory to us. We are demanding our money back so that we may do business elsewhere, nearly 7weeks, two computers and two frauds later i dont think that asking for our money back is a far fetched request.
