My Cableone internet is suppose to be 5.0 Mbps download and 512K upload, unable to speed test on their site, but other internet speed test sites on the net indicate no faster than 1.5 Mbps down and all I get is errors on the upload speed. Half the time, I cannot even check email.
Cableone can not tell me why I have such a poor and slow connection out here in Roswell, NM. My neighbor has the same service, but their speeds are greater than 5.0 Mbps and 512Kbps.
When I do a trace route test I get to the local cableone hub and then the connection drops back down to 3 different home network addresses (192.168. Xxx. XXX) before it finally, goes back to the backbone. Cableone has no clue as to why this is the case. 3 months ago they told me it was from a cable that had been cut out and was being repaired some where in the desert, but they claim that's been repaired.
I thought maybe it was my wireless service, so I removed it and it made no difference, and same 3 home network addresses show up in the trace route, still.
I took my laptop to the neighbor's and it works fine, 5.0 Mbps and 512Kbps. This problem has been going on for better than 3 months now.
Ping test works fine, just slow, no loss of data packets. I am tempted to change to DSL through the phone company or maybe even mobile wireless.
The phone and cable TV come through on the same RG-59 RF cable and they work fine, but this Cable Internet / ISP is very poor.
