Christmas morning my laptop was working fine and then it went black, telling me I had several viruses. A Security Company website came up on monitor, forcing me to purchase product (wouldn't let me cancel even though there was a cancel button) to get rid of viruses. The product was supposed to be a 2 year service for $49.95. After purchasing it the supposed viruses disappeared.
This morning I received a call from my credit card company asking if I purchased something yesterday for $99.95. I told them no and told them I had purchased something for $49.95. The guy from the credit card company said something about real gold soft and mcafee.
I tried calling mcafee, giving them all my credit card info and they said they couldn't find any of my information. I looked up real gold soft on internet and the first thing that came up was consumer complaints and sure enough others have had the same problem as I have.
I called my credit card company several times to dispute the charge, being told I would have to wait for statement to show up before I am able to dispute the charge. Finally, after many phone calls to the credit card company, I was put through to a very helpful woman who said they would tag the charge and that I shouldn't see it on my next bill. However, if I do, I'm supposed to ask for fraud report from them to dispute it again.
Mean while, I have canceled that card and asked to get a new one.
Thanks for this website. I know how frustrated everyone must feel having to go through this.
