Here is what they did to me and the letter I send them:

I received an email notification to view my bill on 12/05/09 and stated the amount due on 12/19/09 was $82.89. We were having issues with one of the boxes not working so I looked at my account on 12/16 and noticed my account reflected that I owed $1,195. I called on 12/16/09 at 8:30pm, knowing this was an honest mistake on your behalf. After talking to your representative on the phone she stated the notes read that my social security number matched another account that was in collections and therefore was linked to the above account number. I advised her that could not be true because I have never provided your company with my SSN. She told me there was nothing she can do about this issue. I then asked her what the other accounts SSN was and she stated that she could not see that. I then asked to talk to someone who could help me. I was placed on hold for over an hour to talk to a supervisor, which is unacceptable hold time. He simply repeated what the representative told me. After discussing this issue for sometime he then asked me for the last four digits of my SSN. I gave him the last four digits of my SSN and he then stated, That does not match the account in collections. I assumed the issue was resolved at that time, however he told me that a manager would call me the next day (12/17/09) to discuss this matter and that I needed to send a letter to dispute the charges. The manager or supervisor failed to call me, as previously advised. I have written you this letter to dispute the charges as previously requested. I have not had a previous relationship with your company prior to my current account for this past year of service. You may do whatever you choose with this matter, but I will not pay for someone elses account. I will be cancelling my account with your company and going back to Cox cable. Their customer service is not the greatest, but they have never suggested that I was a thief and a liar.
