Nameintel.com DOMAINTOOLS.com PAYPAL.com FRAUD CANNOT RESOLVE

Entered TRIAL membership to DOMAINTOOLS.com website which offers information on domains, hosting history, registered owners/contacts etc. Trial was for 10 days starting Sept 14. Option to CANCEL billing only specified CHANGING the billing to another source other than PayPal, not cancel the trial membership! Once entered, there was no option available to CANCEL the trial membership. DOMAINTOOLS.com debited my Paypal account on Sep 25.

I filed a complaint with DOMAINTOOLS.com (Ticket #: ISQ-149473) which has never been answered. I called repeatedly the telephone number for their billing department (239-838-9035) and get the same recording to leave a message and a return phone contact number. I have never gotten a returned call!

I filed a complaint with PayPal on the same date for fraud which they rejected electronically. Here is the response I got from PayPal:

hello xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

We have completed our investigation of your claim and have determined that
this is not an instance of unauthorized account activity. At this time,
your claim has been denied. Through careful research, it has been
determined that the correct course of action would be to contact the
merchant directly to report these unauthorized transactions.

If you wish to cancel the billing agreement associated with your PayPal
account, you may do so by following the instructions below:

1. Go to the PayPal website and log in to your account.
2. Click "Profile" at the top of the page.
3. Click "Pay List" in the Financial Information column.
4. Find the merchant whose agreement you want to cancel.
5. Click on the merchant's name or email address.
6. Click "Cancel".

If you would like a copy of the documentation that was used in the course
of our investigation, please send a letter via mail to:

PayPal, Inc.
Attn: Unauthorized account Access Appeal
P.O. Box 45950
Omaha, NE 68145

In your letter, please include your name, the email address on your PayPal
account, and the date you filed the Unauthorized Account Use Claim.

Thanks,

Account Review Department

As usual, PayPal is not interested in protecting its users from fraud. It will be interesting to see if the cancellation of the re-billing was effective as stated in their reply, which I had already done. Paypal also FORCED me to change both my account password and security questions after this episode! Plus, an internet payment system requires a "snail-mail" appeals system? What is wrong with this picture?

Don't fall for the "FREE TRIAL" offer by DOMAINTOOLS.com and get the same information (and much more) from freely available other resources online, as I did. This is why I tried to CANCEL the free trial account - I found much more information than was available on this site, and it was from FREE souces elsewhere on the internet.

DOMAINTOOLS.com is a ripoff and their website will not allow you to cancel a "FREE TRIAL" account once you enter a payment source! If I had used a credit card to be billed instead, the card issuer would have allowed me to reverse the charge (s) - I called them [VISA] and they verified this in writing to me. They have had similar complaints about this vendor, per the call center person I reached.

DOMAINTOOLS.com = FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD! Don't fall for it - If you do/did, then FIGHT BACK!
