I purchased a Compaq "GF596UA, COMPAQ PRESARIO NOTEBOOK PC F572US" in July for my daughter.in May the wireless card stopped working and it was sent in for repair. They replaced the motherboard and said that the warranty was extended to 24 months.
In April the computer screen went blank and they said this failure was under the extended warranty. I sent the computer in and they wanted $424.00 to repair it as they now said the problem was the memory not the motherboard. I said that on the website they daid that if the motherboard was replaced the warranty was extented to 24 months. They said that extension only covered the motherboard, althought their website did not state that. The website still states
"After HP repairs your noteboook, you will continue to be covered by the HP limited Warranty Service Enhancement program for 24 months after the start of your original standard limited warranty, or 90 days after receiving your free repair, whichever is later."
I told them to just sent the unit back as I could replace the motherboard for less than $424.00. When I received the computer back I found that it would work fine with one of the memory chips out but when two were inserted it would fail. I tested the memory and both chips were good.
I called Compaq and informed them that the memory was good and did not think much of their diagonistic capabilities. They had me send the unit in again and they then told me the CPU was bad and that this was not covered under the extended warranty and wanted over $500.00 to repair it. I told them to just return it as I could buy a new one for less.
When the computer was returned the problem checked was "Thermal Pad". When it was sent back it would no longer work with just one memory chip in it. They have now made the problem worse than it was to start with as it will not even turn on now.
Thank goodness for the MasterCard extended warranty program as I am now filing a claim under this program.
