Grants For You Now
Charged money to my account without my permission

Let me first start off by saying you need to beware of scams on the internet. Now my story.

I was recently thinking about going back to school, but I knew I wouldn't be able to pay for it. So I started looking around for any info I could find about getting a grant for school. I looked for several different options and came across a website offering all types of grants. The website itself sounded good, it even looked good, and they offered a free cd with more info on it. But... They wanted you to pay for the shipping which was $1.99. I thought about it and then went ahead and ordered the cd.

I never did get the cd.instead what I did get was another charge to my card of a very high amount. $94.00 dollars! So I start to check on things. I wanted to know why my card was charge $94.00 when I did not give them permission to do so. I found an 800 number so I called it. No one ever answered. It just kept saying your call is important to us please say on the line a rep will be with you shortly. The first time I stayed on the phone for over thirty minutes with no answer just the please stay on hold music. I waited about an hour and tried again, but got the same results. So I sent them an email. They did answer it, but only after about a week and by then I had already talked to my bank.

Long story short. I got the money back. Which I didn't think would happen. But only after about 3 or 4 emails back and forth. And I must say, I did have to be a little nasty with them. I am now going to be a lot more careful who I give my info to. They did say they had the right to do it, because they say I gave them permission to charge my card for a monthly fee. However after I check the website I discovered that it didn't say anything at all about any monthly charge or anything about a free trail. Which is why they said the second charge took place.

This is the reply from the first email I sent them:

Dear Customer,

Let's start from the beginning.

You had ordered our Grants For You Now program for $1.99. You ordered on the following link: http://www.grantsforyounow.com/order. Aspx.

On that order page there is a box (and always has been) that says I agree to the Terms and Conditions. That has a link that takes you to this page: http://www.grantsforyounow.com/terms. Aspx.

As you can see this a free trial program for 7 days. You were charged on the 8th calender day for $94.89. You MUST AGREE to the terms before an order is placed so therefore this order is in fact authorized.

We do have a satisfaction guarantee with our program. You can request20a refund, per the terms of our refund policy, after trying our product for 88 days. You can find this policy and a link to our refund request form at the link listed above. During this time you WILL NOT be charged any further, but your username and password will work for our members area.

Thank you,
Customer Service

I checked for the box. It was there. And I will say that I didn't read it. But do you realize how many people there are that don't read that kind of stuff. And they know it. Which is why you don't see anything about it on the main page of the site. I have a copy of the site the way it looked the day I got the charge I wasn't suppose to get.

I sent them another email telling them what I thought about there so called satisfaction guarantee program. Here is the edited email I sent them in response:

Bull&$! T!

Your website never said anything about it being a free trial of any kind. If it had I wouldn't have done it. Especially if it had said $94.89 f^%#! Ng dollars and month! I already talked to my bank. The info you have for me is no good anymore. And my lawyer is next! Cancel my account. And I want a full refund for everything.

Jeremy

Here's the next email:

Your refund was approved and is being processed today. You will be refunded
94.89 to your credit card. Please allow at least 3-5 business days to see this
refund in your account.

Of course that email didn't come right away.in fact I think it took them about another week or so to send it.

Do you remember that website I talked about at the beginning of this story? The one I found that had the free cd but you had to pay the shipping. And it ended up being a scam. Guess where I found that website? It was an advertisement on a website. Guess what website? MySpace! That's right, MySpace (at the time of writing this story) has an advertisement on their website offering a scam to it's users. I've not tried to contact them. I prolly won't get a response anyway.
