I had recently upgraded from dialup to DSL, and I started getting these pop-up messages saying that I needed to upgrade my antivirus to "Antivirus 2008". I mistakenly thought that this was part of PeoplePC's deal to get me to use their software, so even though I already had AVG's free antivirus software, I reluctantly agreed to buy this software. BIG MISTAKE!
On July 7th, when I clicked on the window to purchase Antivirus it said that it would only cost me only $49.95 (down from its original price of $89.95), and that I would never have to upgrade. There was no indication of any other software, tech support costs, handling fees, etc. Imagine my surprise when I clicked the "Accept" button and discovered that Antivirus 2008 was being bundled with "AlphaWipe Tracks Cleaner 2008" for 34.95 and "Premium Support" for $24.95, of which neither I had authorized to be charged on my credit card but was being charged for anyway!
I later received 2 e-mails on the 7th and the 8th, respectively, saying that my credit card had been declined due to insufficient funds, so I was relieved at first. I was shocked when I went to my bank on July 11th when I found out that the charges had not only gone through, but they had been individually charged, so I had been charged 3 overdraft charges as well! I immediately filed a complaint with my bank against billingware.net and had them replace my debit card.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... Do your homework and don't make the same stupid mistake I did...
