In going over my credit card statements for my 2007 taxes, I discovered two charges for products I had never ordered - one called "Complete Home" and the other called "Just for Me." One charge was for $99.99 and the other was for $119.99, six months apart.
Since I was certain I had never ordered these products — in fact I had never heard of them — nor had I authorized any charges of that amount (nor do I know how they even got my credit card information), I tried to call the different 800#s on my bill, all the "agents" were conveniently busy and I was transferred to a message telling me to call back later. Also, both messages were eerily similar.
I then did a search on the web and discovered the parent company for both of these products was TRILEGIANT (TLG) and the web was rife was reports of marketing fraud. Apparently they have been sued by several states, including the one they are based in Connecticut. Only the complaints I read were of small amounts, like $7.99 per month. Apparently they are just getting bolder!
I immediately called my credit card company and had the charges disputed and removed. Of course, I've had to pay interest on these charges for all these months that won't be removed.
I realize it is partly my own fault for not scrutinizing my bill more closely for so long (you MUST do this diligently), but it's simply OUTRAGEOUS that these people are allowed to get away with this kind of fraud. I'd like to know what I can actually DO about stopping these practices beside just writing this report. I am open to any and all suggestions.
