Led me to believe the service was free then put a bogus phone number to cancel

I was contacted concerning a free web page. Many times in the conversation I said I do not want or need this form of advertisement. I was also informed that it would cost nothing and I would have to do nothing to cancel. I continued to say I do NOT want this service.
Now I get a letter in the mail saying I signed up for a dial-up service and would need to contact them at 1-866-734-0572 to cancel within 30 days. I already have high speed internet and don't want or need dial up service.
So I call the number to find it has been changed to 1-800-653-0137 and there is no chance of any response because it is an automated message that gives no options except "try again later".
I immediately contacted my local phone provider to turn them in and refuse any charges that may appear.
People like this are the reason people like me get rude on the phone with tele-marketers!
