I received a call from Startup Essentials in response to a survey relating I had an interest in starting up an internet business.
At the beginning of the interview, I was told that very few people who applied for their services actually qualified. It was explained how I would recieve training in all aspects, be provided with many "free" and otherwise difficult, expensive tools and services to make my business successful and easy to run. Then, because of the characteristics that I protrayed in the interview, I was selected!
It was then that I was told that I would recieve a "free" laptop and start up kit, would only pay them a small amount of my profit (about 2%). They would provide all of this and would be always available to contact for coaching and other needs, for only $139 (not sure the exact amount) a month. Wasn't that great?
Then all we needed to do was to go through the paperwork. I would be committing to this for 48 months (I was committed, wasn't I?) Then there were boxes for me to initial and sign right on my screen. I was signing a 48 month non-cancelable contract!
After realizing the empact of what I had done, I finally was able to get in touch with A-1 Loan (the company financing this). Almost immediately, I was being asked if I realized what I would actually be paying, etc. I was informed that if I returned the kit before the date of the first deduction, they would allow me to cancel. I returned it with a letter.
The boxed up kit came back. I called the loan company. I was informed my loan had been canceled, but the contract was between Startup Essentials and myself. I have not contacted them yet.
