Potential illegal scam or big time rip off! Internet

As an ardent user of RIP OFF, I guess I saved myself some grief.

My resume is listed with Career Builders and on 11/16/06 I received an email from [email protected] offering me a position as "Transfer Manager" with their company.

My "job" was to co-ordinate cash transfers from the USA to foreign counteries and I was to be paid 10% of the value of every transaction.

I was to click on their website shortcut to check it out and download and sign the contract agreement.
Of course, the site seemed to be temporarily unavailable. I tried other combinations without fail.
On 12/05 and 06 I received 2 emails from Gary Freedman from his email address, [email protected] advising me one of their "business clients" had sent me a check to cash as per Leva's job description.
The check was for $3,850 and I was instructed to have it cashed at "Fast Cashiers", "Check Cash Express" or others.

I was to take 10% as my fee/commission and send the balance to a contact in Russia and only through Western Union as they have all the transfer details.
Before I even thought about getting involved, I decided to contact my friends at RIP OFF.
Seems I was wise to wait.

However, my situation is a little different to the first complainent. They did not ask for or want my bank details, as this was to be a cash transaction without bank involvement.

The check is written by a company called Mammoth 8050, LLC and the check is drawn on the Wells Fargo Bank based in Park City, Utah and is for $3,850 and looks real genuine to me!

The check was sent in an envlope with an address on front being "VersaCheck" based in San Diego. Also on the front of the envelope was another name and contact info: Greg Cottrill, Golds-USA-cash with a contact phone number 1-801-938-5561. Obviously I could not get through on this number.

I have not quite decided what to do, but a pal of mine in Airport Security advised me to contact the F.B.I. As this could well be a scam of money laundering and associated to foreign bodies.

The wording of all the emails indicated to me that the writtes were not fluent English speakers?
Please be carefull. We must all be prudent and protect our great country. God Bless America..
