My name is Allen and I have a story to tell you the general public about Yahoo Inc. And one of it's services. That service would be their GeoCities Webpage service.
My problem started when I learned that GeoCities Pro was taking $18.90 a month out of my bank account for the last three months. I thought that when I setup the web page over a year ago which I was very happy with it would automatically end on the one year mark. It did not and I take the blame for not making sure that my money was not being taken out of my account. Still I wanted to stop next months payment from being taken out for a webpage and domain name I was not using. So I looked for a costumer service number to no avail. I then found the corporate offices number out in California.
I called them up when I knew they be opened and got a recording. I got an 1-800 number to call and I called it. It rang and rang finally it picked up and then hung up on me. I went though this two more times and then finally I got through to an Indian women for whom English was a second language. We went round and round for ten minutes with the same set of questions and responses that popped on her terminal screen in the call center she was in.
Needless to say I got upset and hung up on her and called back to the corporate offices. I tried to get a number for GeoCities from the woman I was talking to at first then we got into a yelling match. I said I wanted the number she said a company which makes millions a year and host thousands of web pages has no corporate office phone number.
Instead she gave me a website which would manage my web page. I clamed down and I wrote down the site. I hung up and I went to the webpage on my computer. I found out what I needed to do after about ten minutes and I canceled my webpage and payment for December and onward. At least that what was suppose to have happened.
Te next day today I looked up my old website on a fluke and I found it was still up and running. I went back into the webpage which was suppose to cancel everything and did the process again. No conformation screen showed up with a number just the screen that showed up to manage the website. I did this five times and got the same result every time. Finally I looked under different names for the costumer phone number. I got it and spent fifteen minutes talking to an American who could speak English and got it all taken care.
After hearing all this I suggest that if you have GeoCities Pro Web Service and you want to cancel it you call up the costumer service number and talk to a real person. And on a side note do not believe the India call center where some job has been out sourced that there is no American call center.
