Tiger Direct had many bargains on items I needed. The advertised prices were "after rebate". The site stated that they guarentee all rebates and all I had to do was to click on a link to print the rebate forms.
I ordered three items from Tiger Direct. The advertised price for each was "after rebate". If the rebates had been honored, I would have purchased the items for slightly over half of the retail price.
When I attempted to actually obtain the rebate forms, I had to go through several internet links and many hoops just to reach and print the needed forms for each item.
I had to open my computer to obtain the serial number from the motherboard I had just installed. The serial number was required just to obtain the rebate form for the motherboard.
After spending several hours to obtain and complete each form and verifiying that I had provided all required information listed on each form, I also had to spend several dollars per form to mail them certified mail.
Several weeks after mailing in the rebate forms, I received an email for each stating that the rebates would not be honored since I had not signed each form. After reviewing my copies of the forms, I did notice a line for a signature hidden among the fine print at the top of the forms. The list of requirments on each form did not list a signature as being required for any of the rebates.
I replied to the emails that had been sent denying the rebates but did not receive a response. The replies were sent three months ago. I would have gladly signed a copy of each form and sent it back to receive the "guarenteed rebates".
After paying the full price for each item, paying shipping and handling as well as the cost of sending three letters certified mail, I spent much more for the computer components than I would have spent at a local brick and mortar store. Based on the many complaints listed against Tiger Direct, I see I'm not the only one. I'm thankful that I can now go to this site and determine which businesses honor their rebates and which do not.
