I attempted to register two.info domains (each for a 5-year term) on this site on October 11th. Shortly after, I received a receipt for my purchase, as well as a confirmation that the registration had been successful. The domains appeared in my account and I was able to configure them to point to my Web Server.
On October 12th, I logged back into my account and learned that both domain names had been deleted from my account. I contacted their support number and after a half-hour on hold a representative named Jennifer told me that they had experienced.info registry problems the morning I registered my domain names and that they could re-register them. Jennifer took all of my information and promised me that she had re-processed the registrations herself and that there would be no further problems this time around. I also received an email receipt and confirmation of the registrations she processed over the phone.
About an hour after speaking with Jennifer, I received an email from Register Fly stating that The issue is the special price of 2.99 is for single year registration. You purchased 2,5 year registrations which voids the promotion. We have dropped the names and refunded your card in order NOT to charge you the full price that the registry would required.
My complaints are as follows:
1. As of 10/12 the Register Fly price list lists the 2.99 / year price with a 1-year MINIMUM term. There is no mention that this rate is ONLY valid for one year registrations. Deceptive advertising at best.
2. Even if that rate was only valid for one year, their E-commerce platform should have recognized that and warned me and/or quoted me the actual price for a five-year registration. Certainly, I should be able to register the domain name for a 5-year term even if the additional years weren't at the discount rate.
3. Even if they aren't able to control their E-Commerce platform, Jessica should have said something when she re-registered my domain names and told me the total would be $29.90.instead, when I called her back after receiving the email that they were dropping my registrations again, Jessica admitted that she was not aware of that restriction when she re-registered the domain names for me over the phone.
4. If Register Fly did need to cancel my registration after having sent me an email saying that the registration was successful, they should at least have emailed me to make me aware of the situation. Just deleting the registration without warning is highly unprofessional.
Although they have decent prices, I highly recommend avoiding Register Fly at all costs. Don't trust your domain names to a company that can't even register a name for more than one year.
