About 8 years ago, just after having my son, I decided to get on the Depo Provera shot as my Dr. Advised it was a good method of birth control for me. I was on it for 5 years, never having a period in that time. I decided to stop getting it and letting my body cleanse it's self out with the blood.
After about a year being off the shot, I thought I was having a period when in fact I went and sat down on the toliet when I lost a HUGE clot. When I lost that clot (the size of a baby) my sugar dropped leaving me feeling like I was drunk. I got my sugar up and for 3 months following, I bled so much that my Dr. Was talking about a blood transfusion and a hysterectomy. After all this I have recently found out that I have pre-cancerous cells that could become active. My Dr. Believes it could have been due to the shot.
I consider it a life threatening experience and will NEVER consider it an option again, nor will I ever keep my mouth shut when I hear someone considering that birth control. I hope this helps someone in making the decision to NOT use Depo Provera as a birth control method.
