Being a single mom living on my own it was very hard to find a health insurance plan that would fit into my budget. My little girl had insurance through the state but I made too much money for insurance for myself. I recieved a phone call from surehealth after finding many companies who were just indemnity plans i thought i had finally figured out how to ask all the right questions. After being on the phone with a csr for what seemed like forever he finally asked if i had questions after going through my list of requireds i finally get to the most important "Is this an indemnity plan?" To which he replied no. Again wanting to be absolutely sure i asked again worded differently "Is this real insurance? As in can i go to the doctor can i get prescriptions if i go into the hospital will it be covered?" This time i got a yes hospitals were covered 80% and then $500 a day for each day i was admitted. So i gave them my $125 non refundable application fee and then for the next few months i was charged almost $300 to cover my premium... A few month into i went into the hospital with a staph infection was in the hospital for a week and since staph is contagious i was in a private room b/c its very very easy for someone else to get. I was pretty much on quarantine. After i got out i had to go into a new doctors office for a check up gave them my insurance card and waited for them to copy and call and whatever about 10 minutes later the receptionist called me into the back office and told me when she called the company they told her they were just a discount program and i was not covered to see this doctor first off there goes the promise of being able to see any doctor i wanted... So i had to pay the doctor out of my own pocket another $300... Called the company talked to a woman and said i wanted to cancel my "insurance" i also requested my taped conversations with all csr's, a copy of my paperwork any and everything i signed because now not only was i out the money i had been paying them i now have a $10,000 hospital bill in collections b/c i was suppose to have insurance and my lawyer was going to look at them. I was told i couldn't have anything no tapes unless they were court ordered nothing couldn't have my money back but they would be glad to cancel my plan for me i just had to fax in a form before my next bill was scheduled to be taken out which was oh the next day so they took out that money too since my plan wasn't cancelled three days prior. I contacted BBB and surehealth sent me a check for my monthly bills but i still have a $10,000 debt on my credit which thanks to this company i'll be lucky if i ever get to own a house or get a credit card there are even some banks that won't let me get a checking account and jobs that won't hire me b/c of them... The little amount of money i recieved from them does not cover the lifetime of turmoil this company has caused me... And will continue to cause me I would sue but again this would cost money... My best advice is to stay away or if you absolutely have to tape every second of every phone call with them...
