Attempts to rip off patients, lousy customer care

I had used this company once before in April and all was fine then. I went back on 16 July to get my eye glasses replaced and to have another eye exam. All I wanted was a simple eyeglass replacement and I said so when I made the appointment.

The appointment was at 11:00am. I arrived at 10:45 and the waiting room was empty. I didn't go in until 11:20 yet SIX people who came in after me were all called in before me.

As soon as I'm called in the "nurse" says to me "We'll prep you for the retina scan now, ok?" This made it sound like it was a routine procedure, but since I didn't get it the first time, I asked about it.
I said "what's the retina scan?"

She explained what it did and was for but DID NOT say that it was not covered by my insurance. Fortunately I asked (as I always do) and she then admitted that it wasn't and it costed $29.00. I declined it, but it annoyed me how they used tricky wording to try and get me to do it. The eye exam with the Doctor (Dr. Neil Erickson) went fine. He gave me a chemical that dilated my pupils for the exam.

After the exam I was taken to where they sell eye glass frames. I selected a pair and when we began to discuss when they'd be ready the salesman said that the lens would be of some special kind for reading and distance vision, and he said they'd cost $94 dollars (not covered by my vision provider).

I told him that I wanted simple lenses like I had before, just for reading. He said that wasn't possible because the Doctor had "done my eye exam in such a way that only these lenses are available" and that if I wanted standard lenses I'd have to make another appointment. I knew he was lying so I just got up, made my standard co-payment and left.

Before leaving I had to insist that they give me the plastic sunglasses due to my pupils being dilated (the last I'd been there 2 years earlier it was they who told me I needed them). They acted rude and made a comment that they "never saw a man need them" which is funny because in Army boot camp we were given them after our eye exams). Without them I wouldn't have been able to see anything in the bright sunlight while trying to drive home

I won't be going back there and would suggest others avoid the place. I made an appointment with another eye doctor that afternoon and he said standard eye glasses are no problem since they are the norm of what most people get.
