Obesity Research Institute Ripoff! GUILTY OF THEFT... This company charged an unauthorized amount to my credit card!

I called Propolene several weeks ago to inquire about the "2 for 1" ad I'd seen numerous times on television. The rep I spoke with told me that I would actually receive four bottles and be charged $95.00, and four months later I would then start receiving a bottle a month until I cancelled. I declined the offer and thanked her for her time. No problems thus far.

For the past three weeks since my inquiry, I have been seeing an obvious telemarketing number pop up on my caller ID almost every day. I normally don't answer these calls, but yesterday (3/21) my three year old son answered the phone for me, therefore I was "caught."

I found out this pesky repeat caller was the Propolene company. The rep told me that I could try Propolene free for 60 days, and only have to pay $7.95 for shipping and handling. If I wasn't satisfied, I could cancel and owe nothing more, or if I like, I can continue and pay $59.00 for the two bottles sent, then $29.95 per month until I decide to cancel.

I agreed to the $7.95 shipment and he proceeded to try and sell me several other "offers" which I turned down. I told him I only wanted to try the $7.95 offer, nothing more. He took my credit card info and I asked him once more what was going to be charged to my card. He told me $7.95.

I decided to check the usacomplaints.com site today to see what kind of complaints have been filed against Propolene. I found several, so I immediately checked with my bank, and sure enough, I had been charged $37.90 this morning, instead of the authorized charge of $7.95.

Then I called the number provided to me by my bank (877-230-8579) and spoke with a Propolene rep. I stated that $37.90 had been charged to my bank account and that I did not authorize that amount. I told her that I wanted the $29.95 excess credited back to my account. She told me that she couldn't do that. I told her that she had to because it was an unauthorized charge to my account and requested that she cancel my order.

She proceeded to argue with me and told me that she couldn't credit the amount back because the order was already being processed. I told her that if she couldn't credit my account, then her manager could. I also stated that I was an attorney and they would be breaking the law by commiting theft if they didn't credit my account.

She placed me on hold while she supposedly talked to her manager. About 20 seconds later, she apologized and told me that my account had been credited. She stated that there must have been an error in their order entry department. I told her that with all the problems they have with orders, maybe they should think about training their employees better.

So far, no credit appears on my account from Propolene. But I will update this report when it does, or doesn't appear. I have a feeling my troubles are not over.
