I purchased a Sony Clie PEG-TJ25/U on 1/2 from BestBuy in Austin, Texas. For two months the sony PDA was working well. It's a nice one. It cost me $180. It also cost me over ~$50 for the flash card for extra memory.
I used to carry it around in my front pocket. The Sony Clie PEG-TJ25/U couldn't take this. The screen soon stopped responding.
I'm not an expert on how tough all the other PDAs are, but my last PDA was a real PALM with a hard plastic cover. The thing was as tough as nails. I could drop it, put it in my pocket and even when I would accidentally sit on it, it never gave me any trouble. It lasted for 3 years. The only thing that killed was when I accidentally washed it in the washer.
I had a feeling that the Sony Clie wasn't as tough just by the feel of it. It's like comparing a real IBM Thinkpad's hard cover to the soft cover's of a DELL. So I was extra careful with it. I never sat on it or dropped it.
What a weak Sony pda. What a let down
My advice, if a pda doesn't feel tough, don't buy. If it feels flimsy, don't buy it.
Sony repair will take a look at it, but more than likely they'll claim that I damaged it by putting it my pocket. This is what support told me after being put on hold for well over an hour. If they claim I damaged it, it will cost me close to a $100 just for labor (no parts) to repair it. If I refuse to have it fixed, they'll charge me close to $50 to get it back. What a rip off!
