Compaq HP - Best Buy
Defective computer ripoff bad business I will never purchase anything from HP again. Reading Pennsylvania

Same old song...

I purchased a Compaq Presario 2570us on July 30. I purchased the computer for my new business, and unfortunately did not even start the thing up for a few weeks. Once I attempted to start up the computer, it would take up to 6 attempts before it would boot up without the screen being entirely black. It did this every time.

To make a horrific long story short... I have multiple case numbers, CSO numbers due to multiple phone calls for "walk-though" repair which entailed a customer service person reading to me what I should do to the computer. None of this worked. What made it all the more frustrating was that in order to speak with a customer service representative, I had to wait on hold up to 20-30 minutes, after which I was "helped" by someone with a limited grasp of the English language. When I asked them a question, or tried to explain, they merely read me the next paragraph in their manual.

I sent the computer to HP for the 48-hour repair, to no avail... It was still defective upon its return, even though they allegedly replaced the top case. The next thing I was instructed to do was take it to Radio Shack. I did this and they sent it away for weeks. When I got it back, it came with a note saying that it could not be repaired and had to go back to HP for a factory repair.

When I called HP to inform them, they said they could not find proof that I had sent it to Radio Shack. What a suprise. They told me that I had to send it back to them for a final attempt at repair prior to replacement. I did this, and when it returned the slip said the hard drive had been replaced. BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINED! Plus two other added bonuses... My operating system which had been Windows XP Professional was now Windows XP Home Edition, and my new hard drive made noises and squealed when turning it off. It is now the beginning of January.

Today is January 21, and I just got off the telephone with the Quality Service Manager Sandra who told me that my only three options were to
1. Have a new 2580 computer sent to me to replace mine, without a floppy drive, with an external wireless LAN hookup, and a rebate coupon for a floppy drive.
2. Accept a refurbished 2570
3. Get a refund of 65% of my money.

None of these are acceptable to me, as I want what I bought. A brand new, notebook computer with a CD rom, a disk drive, and a wireless LAN card installed. That is what I bought, and that is what I want. If I bought a defective computer, then I want an exact replacement or my money back.

Sandra said that she wasn't going to do that because my computer was 9 months old already. Which is a lie, or an idiotic statement, as I purchased my computer 7 months ago, and the reason it was that old, was that it had spent most of its life at HP, or waiting on the shelf for HP pickup.

She also said that disk drives were obsolete (3.5") and not in laptops anymore, but that she could give me a coupon for a rebate to have one installed. How assinine.

I contacted Best Buy, where I purchsed the computer, and they didn't seem to care. They already had my money.

I will never purchase anything from HP again. I am telling everyone I know the same thing.
