Dish Network
Deceptive Sales Practices

In September we signed up for Dish Network and have been very pleased with the service. Then in February they raised the "regular" price of the America's Top 120 package by $5. When we signed up for the service the main "pitch" for the service was a monthly charge "as low as" $24.99 per month for 12 months. We understood the rate would go up after the first 12 months and were okay with that. We also understood that we signed a two-year contract. I emailed Dish Network and were told the normal response reported in other reports on this site that the contract we signed gives them the right to raise the rates at any time. They also told me that if we cancelled our service prior to the two-year contract we would be charged a cancellation fee. I don't disagree with the terms of the contract. My objection is that they advertised the package as being $24.99 for 12 months, not that we would get a $15 credit for 12 months. This is false advertising and they shouldn't be allowed to raise the rate until after the first 12 month period they advertised for $24.99. I would love to join a class action against Dish Network to force them to live up to their advertised introductory rate of $24.99 for the first 12 months. Perhaps some branch of law enforcement or commerce can initiate a false advertising complaint against them. Again, it is not the contract I disagree with. It is the advertising that led up to signing the contract that I believe was fraudulent.
