What a relief to read about all of the gateway nightmares! I say everyone should group together and file a lawsuit against them. I bought my computer from them 1/19/99 and the day I received it my monitor did not work. I believe UPS dropped the box because it was dented up. As soon as I got my new monitor my harddrive crashed. I immediately requested a new computer. They refused and sent me a new harddrive. Since then they have had to replace my monitor three times, my harddrive twice, and I've had to reformat my harddrive twice. Still I can barely use my system. I tried to send it back within my 90 warranty period and they said I had to pay $200 for shipping and handling. I HAD TO PAY FOR THEIR CRAPPY MERCHANDISE! I didn't though because I do accounting for a living and NEED my computer. I refuse to pay them another nickel. I have a very thick file with all of the calls I've made to them, bottom line, they could care less! Now they tell me they think my motherboard has been bad from the very beginning but expect me to drop my computer off at the country store for a week or more! They are out of their minds! One representative told me I should have been sent a whole new system right away, but she couldn't help me either. I have been told by other representatives to "ignore" my error messages. I freeze up daily and get continual error messages. I will NEVER buy another Gateway. And watch out because one of the monitors they sent me had nasty clear sticky junk all over the front of it. Along with coffee spills and finger print smudges! How disgusting! It was also a year older then the one I purchased. I've threatened to sue them and they could care less. They really are a rip off!
