The installer came to my house on Feb. 14 to install Direct TV. He spliced wires together from another installation that occurred before I bought the house. He also said he did not have to install any new satellite dishes because there was already one on my roof. He took over 5 hours to do the installation because he kept having problems with the DVR Receiver. At first he said they were going to send me a new receiver. Somehow he got the thing to work, had me sign a bunch of papers and that he had to go in a hurry because he had another install to do over 50 miles away in Nyssa. I believe the only reason why the Direct TV system "appeared" to be working is because Dish Network was still in service at my house.
I had problems immediately. Every time I changed the channel, I got a black screen with a blue box in the lower right hand corner that said, "searching for satellite". I was trying to get to Channel 12; the local Fox station to make sure it came in so that I would be able to watch the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17. I called Customer Service to no avail. I was treated rudely and with a condescending attitude. This was just my first day. Friday, after working 12 hours, I came home to watch TV and got the same "searching for satellite" so I called Customer Service again. This went on all Friday and Saturday. I finally got a hold of a Supervisor and told him to cancel my account. I was well within my 3 days to cancel. He convinced me to let another installer come to my house on Monday to do a complete reinstall. The reinstallation was scheduled to take place between 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Nobody ever showed up, so I called the Corporate offices in El Segundo, CA. Natasha at corporate said the installation was scheduled for after 12:00 noon. Not true!
Now they say they are going to charge me a $420 cancellation fee. I immediately called my Credit Card and told them to cancel any all charges from Direct TV and to stop al future charges. I was told I would have to dispute the current charges and that they couldn't do anything about future charges, so I cancelled my Credit Card, right then and there. What a bleepin' nightmare!!!
