Okidata Printing Solutions must make a KILLING selling toner, as their printers are set up to sacrifice your toner when you replace the image drum. When a toner cartridge is replaced, most of the toner dumps out into the drum. Drum life and toner life are not synchronized; it is unlikely that the drum and toner will run out at exactly the same time. Therefore, when you replace a drum without replacing the toner, you lose whatever toner was left in the old drum. At that point, you will find that the printer will not allow you to print anything until you install brand new toner cartridges.
My office just replaced our colored toner a few weeks ago, at a cost of about $80 per cartridge. We could not have used more than half of the toner; however, today we replaced the colored image drums, and are now experiencing the issue outlined above. I called customer service, and was snidely informed that the only way to fix the problem is to buy all new toners. So on top of losing $120 worth of toner, we are now supposed to spend another $240 on toner! It is an INCREDIBLE RIP OFF and we strongly suggest that NO ONE waste their money on Okidata products!
