I recently saw an ad in the paper that was offering positions for a retail sales position with cell phones. I was really psyched since I was laid off of my last job and I needed to make some money. Well, I emailed the woman, Kayla Lopez, my resume and my contact information, she called me back the next day to see if I could meet up with her at an interview at Pittsburgh Mills Mall which is about a hour away from my house so I agreed to meet her there since being she wouldn't be able to make it out to Washington for another 3-4 weeks to do my interview.
I went in the next day for my interview, I felt really confident in myself because I knew I would get the job. I walked up to the kiosk and told the one gentleman that I was there for my interview at 2. I got there about 20 minutes early and stood there for about 15 minutes after I had told someone that I was there for an interview. They didn't even tell Kayla that I was there. She turned around and said very rudely, "Can I HELP You???" I said well, I'm here to talk to Kayla for my 2:00 interview. She said Ok, give me a couple minutes, I'm kinda busy right now. So I waited for her about 10- 15 minutes and she said well, are you ready to go? I said yeah, so we walked down the mall, and to the coffee shop, she asked If I wanted something to drink and I said a very polite, No thank you but thanks for offering. She said, get something... So, I got a iced drink since I had a feeling that we were going outside. We went outside to talk and start my interview. Let me remind you that I was telling her about myself and what I do for a living. We were talking about different things and she stopped me and offered me the position. I accepted and I filled out my paperwork and headed back to the store. I was really excited to start a new job and start working as soon as she would let me. She wanted me to start the next day and I did.
Ok so I had to be at work at 1. I got there about 20 minutes early and there were 5 men laughing and talking... Having a good time on the job. I was really happy and excited to see that kind of attitude. All the guys looked at me and said "Can I help you?" I said I'm here for training, I start at 1. They just looked at me like I was talking in a foreign language or something, and laughed. They all introduced themselves, and I started to watch what everyone was doing there. The next thing I notice about 2-3 hours later, Kayla shows up, with the police. I wanted to know what was going on. They take one man outside, do something, then he comes in screaming and cursing like crazy. From what I heard, they took out 350.00 from his pay for training costs and his employee code. He only got a 120.00 paycheck. Then they took out another man, and he just left. It was like there was only myself and another kid there after there was 6 people in the kiosk, and I was still wondering what the hell was going on.
The next day, I worked I immediatly got my staff code, since It was only 2 of us in the kiosk. But then this is where it happened. I thought I was going to get my first sale, NO! Kayla (the regional manager) took it from me and butted in when I was trying to get my drift of things. I could have had 4 sales or more that day if it wasn't for that girl. She doesn't even get commission off of sales, SALARY BASE ONLY!!! Anyways, I worked 7 days in a row, and only got 2 sales out of working there.
2 days ago, She hired her best friend, Tina Corona. Gave her the staff code and everything as soon as she got there. (we have a dress code too, she kinda looked like a bum off the street, flip flops and a polo). The girl that started 2 days after me was still waiting for a staff code.
Yesterday was our training class, Watched a movie about fish and how to have fun at work... First of all, we don't sell fish, and If we have fun, we will get yelled at for it anyways. Stayed there for about 8-10 hours or more, and Kayla wanted us to come in and close for Tina. We didn't have to since the boss told us not to.
Today, I was informed that Tina, who was hired 2 days ago and who is also the Regional Managers "Best Friend", and who doesn't know anything about the company and didn't go to training, Is now the acting manager. I was pretty preturbed about the whole thing. Tina told me that I wasn't greeting customers, she didn't like my attitude toward the job and business, and I didn't sell my quota for the week, I had to leave immediatley, Next thing I know the phone rings and it's Kayla. She asked me when I work because she had to talk to me. I asked her if it was true that I had to leave because I'm not selling anything, (nobody wants to buy cell phones from us because we have a bad rep already, from word getting around that we are WAY overpriced with our phones.) and she said yes I want you gone NOW!!! I was highly upset and she accused me of stealing from the store, and I didn't even do anything... JUST MY JOB! So now they are taking 350.00 from my pay for staffing codes and training because I didn't make my quota of sales for the week and because they didn't think I was going to make a 45 sale quota by the end of the week. Now that's a ripoff... Plus I was researching with sprint and they said that I would make 300.00 a sale there when I make 50.00 a sale with Advanced Wireless. Plus on top of that, their cell phones are 50% more expensive than the sprint store themselves. Now, That's What I call a ripoff job and a ripoff to customers.
