World Com Wireless is filing bankrutcy, but still has the audacity to send to a collection agency! I am continually appalled at their ineptness and poor customer relations.
After getting delayed bills for several months, I still made my payments on time whenever I got my bill. Then November I sent in two checks from two different checking accounts to clear my balance and the checks never cleared! All the other checks I wrote on these two accounts cleared my banks, but these two checks written to World Com never ever cleared.
In January I get a call from WORLD COM WIRELESS informing me that my account was past due. I authorized a pay-by-phone transanction to bring my account up-to-date which was to include the amounts of the checks that never cleared.
I then balance my checkbook the end of January and discovered that the pay-by phone amount was never withdrawn from my account by WORLD COM! When I attempted to call WORLD COM at the # printed on the front of the bill, I get a phone-sex company called "Pilgrim Telephone" that charges $1.99 a minute! I dialed this number several times to make sure I did not misdial, and I got the same phone-sex company!
I found another toll free number printed on the back of the bill and that did connect me to World Com but I was disconnected 4 times and then put on hold for over 15 minutes, never to speak to a human being. On my sixth try, I did get ahold of an actual customer service rep at WORLD COM and she assured me that the pay-by-phone amount I authorized was posted to my account! No wonder WORLD COM was having accounting problems leading to their much publicized bankruptcy.
At that point, I told the customer service rep to cancell my entire account (cell phone and pager). That was back on January 28. I am still getting billed by WORLD COM. No matter how many times I call them (and actually get thru) write them, or try to e-mail them (the e-mail address is not valid I discovered) I cannot get them to end my service. We have cell phone service thru Cingular Wireless now, with no complaints.
We have not used WORLD COM since 1/26/02, but we are still getting bills, now up to $325 for service we no longer have.
I also noticed that WORLD COM has charged us $15 for a returned check! What a JOKE! What is going on here? Now our account has been turned over to a collection agency. I deeply resent this unnecessary blight on our credit report. I have never encountered a company that cannot mail out statements in a timely manner and then cannot cash our checks or process our phone payment transactions.
If there has been a class action suit filed against WORLD COM, or if anyone is interested in filing one, let me know.
