Buyer Beware! Fry's electronics sold me some fake memory. I purchased what I thought was a TEAC 1GB DDR memory for apx $100US. This memory had a heat sink metal plate covering the actual memory chips which is normal. When I tried the memory in my computer it turned out to be 256MB of SDRAM! For those who dont know, this kind of memory retails for about 20 bucks!
Furious that I was sold counterfeit merchandise, I went back to the store to return it. I wasn't asking for my money back, just an even exchange for a legit product. When asked what was wrong with it, I explained exactly what happened. Note that only 1 hour had passed since my purchase as time stamped on my receipt. The rep said he needed to get his manager and returned with him. The manager's name was Cornelius, and he proceeded to tell me that the store would not be accepting my return!
At this moment, I reminded him of my consumer right to return faulty or fake merchandise. He repeated that his store would not be accepting my return. They were now accusing me of switching out the memory myself! They sell me fake memory yet I'm the criminal? Apparently they thought so because the police showed up while I was talking to the manager and informed me that I had to leave the store.
I told the officer what happened, and he told me it didn't matter because the store wanted me to leave. He said I was now tresspassing and that if I didn't leave I would be forced to leave. Check what you buy before you leave the store, or better yet, dont shop there at all.
