Complaint / Review
Liberty Wireless
Ripoff

I had been doing business with Liberty Wirlesss for almost a year. I was supposed to get a $125 rebate on the cost of my phone after six months of paid service. That never happened. I called repeately and was given a host of stories. First they never receive my receipt. Then when I faxed them a copy, they said they would mark their records and send me a check. The check never came! When I called back several week later, the person I spoke to had no record of my original call. I started the whole process over again. Again I never got the rebatecheck!

I figured as far as prepaid service goes, they are the cheapest, and since the actual service so pretty good, I just ate the lost.

But what happen next is really too much to take. After writing this report I am also contacting the Attroney General of my state (New York).

The "refurbished" phone purchased that for $125 broke. I called Liberty Wireless and told them I wanted a new phone. They told me that since it has been well past ninty days, I would have to pay for it. I said fine, no problem. Then they told me that the same model phone is not available.

This upset me, but I was willing to shell out $140 for their camera phone as a replacement. The girl took my credit card information and processed my order then (and here is the kicker) she said my phone would beshipped in 10 to fifteen business days (inotherwords, three weeks). I told her that I could not be without a phone for that long, and I wanted it shipped overnight AT MY EXPENSE!!!
She told me, she is sorry, but overnight shipping is only available for new customers and that I would just have to wait the three weeks.

After a lengthly aurguement, I said fine, please suspend my account until I decide on what I want to do i.E. Wait or cancel my account.

I called them back in a few days with the intention of ordering the phone. But then I was told that even though I suspended my account, my minutes were still going to expire on April 16th.

I said let me get this straight: You charged my account $108 on March 16th and gave me my 2000 anytime minutes. My phone broke on March 18, I had by then, used 35 of my 2000 mintues. You cannot or not send me another phone for three weeks. But you will not hold my minutes until I can use them. What you are saying is this: You are going to charge me $108 for nothing, since without a phone the minutes are worthless. She replied yes, but she was sorry there was nothing she else could do.

At that point I told them to cancel my account and that I wanted and expected a refund. Though they could deduct $1.75 for the 35 minutes I used before my phone broke.

They canceled my account, but refused to refund my money!

I called my bank and explained the situtation and received a tempory credit. I will wait and see how this plays out. Meanwhile, I bit the bullet, and got phone, even though because of credit problems, I had to come up with a $200 deposite,

All in all is a much better deal. Even with the deposite. For one, I got a brand new camera phone for only $20.00 ($250 value), I got 1400 anytime minutes plus free night and weekends and can buy more minutes for only 10 cents minute if I need them. I have text messaging, web access, and nights after 7 PM free. And if I pay my bills on time, I get my $200 back at the end of a year.

My monthly bill will now be $84 rather then $108 and I am dealing with a company with some honor. That is much more then I can say for Liberty Wireless!
