I started a program to complete my Ph. D.in Clinical Psychology with Walden University in June. From June until Fall of 2006 my program was without incident. I completed classes and received grade. However, as I started the disserttation process the whole program fell apart. I put together a committee to review my dissertation. As I completed chapters I was submitted work and sometimes would wait half of a term (six weeks) to get any response. The university's allowed response tme is two consecutive weeks or fourteen days.
Then at some point without my knowledge one of my committee members lef the university. The university didn't inform me that the committee member had left and the way that the dissertation process is structured I have no contact with any committeee members except my chairperson until sucha a time that my proposal meets approval. Then somewhere in the process a second of my committee members left on maternity leave and then was not allowed to return on my committee. While I was informed she went on maternity leave when the uuniversity denied her return to my committee they didn't bother to inform me.
So for approximately three years I paid for a service that I wasn't receiving according the university standard at a rate of $2,900 a quarter. So at this point I had spent $40,600 and I had recieved no educational benefit.
To top it all off Spring quartr of 2010 my committee chaorperson resigned and left the university and because I had no other committee members (remember they had already left without my knowledge) I was told by the academic advising team that I would have to start over. Maybe because I was determined or out of sheer stupidity i treformed a committee and in two years, from 2010 to present I have completed my dissertation, and I am almost at the point of defending. This is with the same chapters that I had turned into my original chaiorperson but never received approval.
Because of this fact alone I decided to file a petion for tuition reimbursement for these quarters where I received no service for what I sent in. I asked that academic advising send me a list of when my committee members left the institution. Odlly enough they contacted the research department who couldn't tell them them when my one committee member left and then I discovered that one of my current committee members had asked to be removed from my commitee and no one at the University had informed me.
So at this point I am going to make teh assumption the Walden University is out to make money and to that end they create situations in which students cannot be successful and spend an extaordinary amount of money for services that aren't provided
