Club Z Tutoring Never paid for a semester's worth of tutoring

After tutoring a student in my area, my hours/tutoring updates were "never sent, " and I had to resend all my forms in at the beginning of May. I didn't hear back, despite several emails, until August. The area coordinator, Mike Jones, had supposedly sent a check to my old address. I promptly told him that I needed it send to another address (which I noticed in my earlier e-mails; as a college student, I basically move apartments every year). I also contacted the new residents at my old address and asked them to let me know if I ever received any mail.

After August, I sent multiple e-mails and left many voicemails, though they were all unanswered. I finally called again in March of the next year from a friend's phone, which Mr. Jones picked up. He said he ignored my e-mails because he thought my complaint had been closed (although all my e-mails said "I never received my check, " so I'm not sure why he thought this), but he would check up again and call me back. No phone call, and he started ignoring my calls from my friend's phone too.

Finally, fed up, I called the headquarters and was told to send an e-mail about the complaint to "John." Sent that in mid-April, still no response. I then e-mailed him again, a week ago, and still have not received a response. I don't understand why this company is trying at both the regional and corporate level to avoid paying me for tutoring I did. It is entirely unprofessional and unethical. Even if my old boss was under the impression that he had paid me, he should have been more careful and sent it to the correct address. It has been more than a year, and I still have not received my rightful earnings.

If you are in Texas, be wary of working for Club Z! Tutoring. As an "independent contractor, " you will have few legal rights under payday laws and will have to resort to more complicated means to report employers. If, like me, you also got scammed, good luck because you'll probably never get your money.
