According to a high ranking official with the U.S. Department of Education, Colorado Technical University is on the Department's "radar" and has been some time. I am a graduate student at the University and have been enrolled since late in 2009. Thank God I am nearing graduation in September with my MBA degree because the experience has been horrible insofar as having to deal with high placed administrators in the college's financial aid divisiion — Particulary Vice President Brian Duffy and his "go to boy" Brandon Young.
The college plays games with students' Title IV Federal Student Aid, often holding on to releasing excess funds to students for weeks and sometimes longer, even if in violation of Title IV regulations. I have had to deal with this issue almost every term, taking abusive statements from college officials such as "not all of our students are as needy for their stipends as you are" from Brian Duffy.
I originally blew the whistle on Duffy a couple of years ago and now he plays games with me — malicious games — holding my funds until the last statutory second, knowing it is causing hardship for me (and my elderly parents who I use these excess funds to buy their extremely expensive medications.
At 82 and 84 years old, my mom and dad do not have savings to help pay what Medicare does not pay, that savings has long ago been eaten up by medical expenses. And to be insulted by the University Vice President because I need the money I borrowed from the Federal government to pay for my education at this late date in my life is wrong — it is immoral, malicious and only meant to hurt.

If you have not yet enrolled and are just looking at schools, I would suggest that you take a close look at the college or university's administration, as well as the teaching staff. See if there are complaints about the school by typing in the school's name and "complaint boards." If you do this with CTU, it will lead you to numerous complaints — perhaps not all true, but you will have to check out the truthfulness of the complaint by further investigating.
At 57 years old when I decided to "update" my education from the Bachelor of Science degree I had earned in 1976 from Kansas State University, I had envisioned a challenging, yet rewarding experience. I am sorry that it did not turn out that way. The instructors at CTU for the most part are supportive and well-educated and experienced. The administration leaves a great deal to be desired.
