I started attended DeVry with the notion that I would receive one of the best quality educations available, and at an accelerated rate. I was also informed that they follow all of the special education laws as required by the State of New York.
I attended DeVry for 2 semesters, never once receiving said promise of special education help. After not having the resources promised not made available, my grades suffered and I was informed at the enrollment of my third semester that I was no longer eligible to attended DeVry due to my grades. I appealed as far as their system would allow, with no luck or even a decent explanation.
At the same time one of the Professors was from Russia and spoke little to no English, I have a language interpretation problem. I had one professor that was supposed to teach MS Office, but instead taught 1960's server theory and tested and assigned projects on Office. Another professor insisted that we read short stories that border on pornographic, when I informed him that my morals and religious commitments would not allow me to read the story, he informed me that I must or fail, no work around provided.
After I was "kicked out" of DeVry, they went ahead and charged my Pell Grant and various loans for another semester that I was never able to attended. I informed DeVry with no response or official explanation. I then informed the Pell Grant administrators of the charge and they didn't seem to care, I also informed the NY State Board of Education of the situation, and they said they would look into it. Haven't heard anything yet over the past 5 years.
Save your money and go to a real school. DeVry is nothing more than a business and all they care about is your money in their pockets. I have not yet recovered from the financial harm this school has inflicted upon my family and am now attended a local community college in Illinois with a lot better education at a much cheaper price.
