On October 21st 2010 at Cypress Lake High School, in Fort Myers, FL. My daughter was sitting in her seat in Mrs. Jackson's class waiting for the bell to ring. When i rung she was still in her seat but she was sitting on her knees. When Mrs. Jackson saw her she said "sit." My daughter was confused, she thought she was in trouble so she ask the teacher "what." Mrs. Jackson then replyed by saying "what you dont know what sit means?" She replyed "yes, it was just the way that you said it" Mrs. Wildermuth was in the class also, she is a teacher at Cypress as well. Mrs. Jackson continued on by saying "Mrs. Wildermuth, do you have a dog?" She said "yes" Mrs. Jackson asked "well, does it know how to sit?" She said "yes". Mrs. Jackson then said " well im surprised your dog knows how to sit and rhonda doesnt."
My Name is Patricia C. And I am the parent of Rhonda C. She attends Cypress Lake High School, and I am appalled at the teacher’s behavior and how my daughter was treated. When I heard that the teacher compared my daughter to a dog, I started to cry. It just bothered my heart and my soul to know that a teacher of her standards would say such a thing to any child. How is my daughter suppose to succeed in life, and to be treated with respect and dignity if a teacher comes and says something like that to her. There have had to be a better way to approach the situation, other than comparing her to a dog. As you know a dog would eat his facieses, it barks, wags its tale, how low can you go. The teacher had the audacity to send a referral home with a smiley face on it as if she’s saying something to me. That hurt even worse. My daughter is very upset about this, she asks me all the time “why did she refer me to a dog.” All I can say is keep your head up, and don’t let anyone stop you from succeeding in life. Every day when I lay my head down to sleep, I pray that my daughter will have a life better than what I had. Every parent wants this for their kid, this is what I live for. There are some good teachers out there, I’m just saying that this is not one of them. I’m not going to uphold my daughter when she’s wrong, and I’m not going to uphold the teachers when they are wrong either. I wonder how many other kids have she spoken to like that? Does she teach that to her kids? What if that was your child, would you like it? What if that was your grandchild, would you like it? The school system acts like they don’t care, but I care and so do other parents like me. Our kids do not deserve to be treated or talked to any kind of way. They do not deserve to be stomped on, kicked, spat at, or humiliated.
