UOP School terminated my student teaching 4 weeks before graduation

What happened to me just yesterday with the UOP is simply unimaginable to me. I am still in utter shock. I have been a student of the online university for three years. When I was looking into the program, the councelor assured me that this was the most flexible and greatest thing for me, a mother of 5 children who otherwise had no hope of returning to school.

I completed all the classes and got grades of either A's or B's in Elementary Education. All that was left for me to do is what is required by the state which is Student Teaching. This is like an internship at a school under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and a faculty supervisor for 12 intense weeks.

We are allowed to miss up to five days without having to make up days. During this time, the competion of two seminars are required. During these seminars, I had to turn in daily assignments including a teacher work sample which is an in depth, minimum 40 page assignment due at the end of the seminar.

I completed the seminar, I completed the assigments and the teacher work sample. I even got a A for the seminar. During my time at the school in which I student taught, I was responsible for observing the first few weeks and then take over the whole class the last four weeks. This is a total of 12 weeks. When it was time to start, I jumped right in to fulfill my obligations.

Suddenly yesterday, I got a call from the placement office with three individuals on a conference call. The man that spoke to me belittled me by asking in a condescending fashion why I was not in class that day. I told them that my son had a high fever and I have no one to care for him, plus that day was only day four absence so what could be so wrong?

He stated that he spoke to my cooperating teacher and that I was not in class most of the time. My cooperating teacher never spoke those words or even implied that.

What had happened was that someone contacts the school regularly to see how I'm progressing and in conversation, my cooperating teacher mentioned that I was not there due to illness and that he wished he had more time with me before of after school to help me with some math issues. This class is advanced, and although they are at the 5th grade level technically, they are studying out of high school math books. During breaks, this cooperating teacher was helping me catch on to the more advanced math.

In that conversation, the school learned that I was not there on campus the second the cooperating teacher walked in and I left when the students left at the end of the day.

During the conference call, UOP representatives told me that I had not complied with the school and terminated my completed seminar, my student teaching and all of my work while completely disregarding the extra $6,000 in loans to pay for daycare for my two children and not to mention the $20,000 I paid UOP for the completed classes from the past.

The University of Phoenix left me out in the cold without a care in the world as I sobbed on the other end of the line.

What this means to me is that all of my time, investment, school work was for absolutely nothing at all. My career was completely destroyed by this school as they led me to failure.

No one ever informed me that I had to show up and leave at exactly the same time as the teacher and they lied about my teacher who will gladly testify that he never said I was missing most of the time.

Today is the day after, I feel like a victim of hit and run. The school told me if I want this certification bad enough I'll do it all over again.

Of course that's no problem for them, all the more money for them.
