Beware highschool seniors and other potential college freshman. Stay away from Niagara County Communitty College (NCCC). The financial aid office has got to be by far the most undertrained and dissapointing offices on the entire campus.
My fiance has attended NCCC for the past couple of years and all they have done is play games with her regarding her tuition. She applied for financial aid and was awarded TAP. The following spring semester my girlfriend went to the financial aid office to inquire about dropping a class due to family problems. As it was past their "census" period, she wanted to know if dropping this particular class would risk putting her financial aid in jeopardy. The person taking care of her (wish we would have gotten their name) said it would be no problem. So she dropped the class. A couple months go by and she recieves a bill in the mail for $1596.00 just in time for Christmas.in talking with the financial aid office she discovers apparantly dropping the class put her down to part time status and thus ineligeble for TAP. When she called to discuss this she was told they could defer the bill until next semester and they would take all of her extra financial aid which amounts to about $2500.00 after that semester's tuition is paid, and they will make her pay out of pocket for books. So we now have to foot a $1600.00 bill for the holidays because she was outright lied to. All incoming freshman please be on your guard in order to prevent yourself from falling into this trap.
