I signed up with Penn Foster thinking I could get a degree in web and media development and work from home so I could spend more time with my five month old daughter. Unfortunately, I ended up having some health problems and my breast milk dried up and I was forced to start her on formula.
Now, keep in mind, I'm a very young mom. I'm only nineteen and I'm struggling to make ends meet. I try to do the best I can, but sometimes it isn't enough. And my husband works all the time trying to provide for us as well.
I contacted Penn Foster to ask about maybe switching to a certificate program (which I thought might be cheaper) and just doing that, as I couldn't guarantee I'd have the money to complete the degree program for web design.
Their response?
I would have to cancel my courses and pay $202.50 just to cancel the courses!
This is ridiculous! I never even did anything they sent me. I took their Math and Language skills assessment the day I signed up on their website but that was it! I didn't do anything else with it and they want another $202.50 in addition to the $150 I already paid for a couple thin cheaply printed books and an online math quiz that I could have done for free somewhere like Quizilla?
It's completely and utterly outrageous! I can't afford to pay that... And if I could, I would just continue the damn course! But I can't, and they're trying to tell me I HAVE to pay it.
Also, they say they require proof of completion of high school, and they really haven't bothered to get that from me, but they sure are pushy about getting the money.
This school is a JOKE.
