Four people posing as members of D.A.R.E. Set up shop inside my local Cub Foods grocery store. They stood around a table full of merchandise bearing the D.A.R.E. Logo, asking for donations to help support this publicly funded company.
I was told my donation would go directly toward the sponsorship of a child to help keep him/her off drugs. I made the maximum donation, and one of the employees placed a duffel bag of the merchandise into a large box, reassuring me that it would be given to a child sponsored by D.A.R.E.
I made a huge mistake in not asking enough questions, assuming Cub Foods would check into this company before letting them set up shop in their store. Later, I realized the company name didn't appear on my receipt, only a phone number that never gets answered, along with a mailbox which is always full.
Several other people made donations to this company while I was standing there, and I later called Cub Foods to inquire about this company. I was told they had no information, and no real process for screening those who wish to set up shop in their stores.
I have since filed complaints with Cub Foods, the Better Business Bureau, and just about every other organization I can think of in hopes of putting a stop to these crooks. What kind of people prey upon the generosity of others using children as bait?
