U-Haul... Criminal activity? The "brief story.." Paid over $1200 for a one-way large tk.in Columbia Mo. To Savannah GA. Day one, the A/C quits on the truck less than 20 miles into trip. Aug. 6th. -98 degrees. I get to Nashville, TN. And the serpentine belt breaks, leaving me stranded for over 6 hrs.in 99 degrees. Took hrs. To get U-Haul to respond to HotLine Call. U-Haul NEVER asked if I had a wife, child, handicapped person on board. Sat so long. I called 9-1-1! The Trooper was kind, had dispatch call U-Haul direct.
They come with a tow truck 6 hrs. Later. I was also towing my car too. I paid the $80 for Safe-Tow and the $40 for the car hauler. When they (U-Haul) get me to a service center, they said they could not fix the truck. Seeing I was "miff'd" they had me sit in a break room and wait for a "transfer" of my belongings to another 26' ft. Truck. A day lost. Motel expenses.
Day 3. Arrive in Savannah. Go to Service Center on Ogeechee Rd. Open the truck and see furniture lying all over. Not secured. My $14,000 motorcycle is almost on it's side. Saved only by a $300 special mount I had luckily purchased. BUT, a mirror had snapped off, swinging against the side of the bike's fairing for 300 miles. ($580 damage.) The furniture damage was over $600 damage.
The Mgr.in Savannah agrees this is all wrong. Takes his own pics. As I do also. Now the criminal activity. I make the std. Claim to U-Haul. I get the no-good Claim Number. I call for three weeks. No call back. Finally I call Coorporate Management. They say they will see. I get a std. Form letter. Saying the "transfer" in Nashville was done by a seperate Co. Which is resposible. WHAT? I am furious of course. Stage II.
U-Haul even produces a std form of waiver. With a FORGED SIGNED signature with my name on it. I have a unique signature, which my lawyer and the Law Enforcement Agency I am retired from. Knows is like a Dr.'s signature. You are not going to copy it. FORGED! U-Haul knew they were needing lagal documents and made some up.in Tennessee of all places. I could not even fathom a major company doing this.
I turned all this over to my Attorney of 15 yrs. Whom admitted it was a case of criminal intent. BUT he said that U-Haul most likely knows I will NOT be able to file such action in Tennessee and the costs and travel expenses, would over-ride my $900 dollar loss. What a crooked crock!
Here is what I see as just horrible circumstances:
1] The truck's A/C breaks on the hottest day in 20 miles.
2] I was left on the side of the road, over 6 hrs., no assistance, nver asking if I had a child, wife, elderly person that COULD have resulted in Death!
3] The criminal act of making up a Liability Waiver, forging my name, and actually producing the form to me as evidence
4] Saying that the Insurance I paid. Did NOT cover such damages. (Then what the hell is it good for more ripp-off for consumers.)
5) Some foreign Pakistan Operator that could NOT even talk English less understand what I was saying.
6) NEVER USE U-HAUL! CORRUPT AS CAN BE!
I am sill incensed. I will contact the Prosecuting Attorney in Nashville, TN. To see if I can COST U-Haul some $ money representing their "Forged Document" involvement.
This co. Should get a 60-minutes series coverage!
