I am attending ITT Technical Institute with two quarters to go before I graduate with a Web degree. I am an honor student and a member of the National Technical Honor Society, but the education I am getting is of absolutely no use to my career or any potential employer.
Of all the classes I have taken for my Web degree, only a few actually have anything to do with Web development and they are useless. ITT teaches Perl programming, jаvascript, ASP.net, XHTML and CSS, or it is supposed to. My instructor for XHTML and CSS class only covered basic HTML.
As far as jаvascripts go, anyone can learn jаvascripts, and probably already uses them if they are truly interested in Web development. Perl programming is outdated, and not used as much as PHP. The instructors at ITT in Norwood, Ohio voted against teaching PHP, because they believed Perl was basically the same thing.
That is just ignorant. As far as ASP, that is basically something very few people use. I should also note that they teach VB.net, which was taught as VB 6 when I took the class. No one uses VB either. When I enrolled in the Web program at ITT, I did not realize how stupid the school is. No one is going to hire me with what ITT Tech teaches me, so I will just have to learn everything on my own and to hell with my degree. It is useless.
When I worked on the network there as a student worker, the network administrator did nothing to train me or anyone else working there how to do anything significant. He never gave us assignments, and basically encouraged us to waste our time or work at a slow pace. So, I quit working there, because I won't work for an idiot that does nothing but check his email and play around on the computer all day.
I was also getting tired of ignorant student workers trying to act like they knew what they were doing and screwing everything up, which the network administrator is to blame for. Before I quit there the network administrator told me and two other student workers that five instructors at ITT Tech were being replaced for not doing their jobs, but he wouldn't say who. I felt I had the right to know, but I did not mention that to him, because there was no chance of him telling. I don't think he even knows how to do his job himself, but what can you expect from someone who can't get a better job other than working on a school network?
When I contacted a lawyer, they said maybe if I contacted a bankruptcy law firm I could get my student loans discharged, but that breaks the banks. I want to sue ITT, and I want everyone to know how utterly ridiculous that school is. There is nothing as discouraging as working for twenty plus hours a week outside of the classroom knowing that the skills you are going to use have to wait till you graduate and have the time to work on them. I am sick and tired of irresponsibility, and ITT is all about it.
