I tried to attend this school in the latter part of 2006 and couldn't do to the financial burden it would have caused me. So I reapplied in January and they dropped my admissions process with no explanation. I tried again in May and was "re-admitted" as they put it.
The thing is that instead of me starting up further in the program as they had previously placed me in they had me beginning at the very start of the program. So instead of completing my degree they had me literally starting it from scratch. When I inquired they said they had done an academic structure changed and that I didn't have enough credits to transfer to begin where I would have started in 2006.
I asked for the details of this structure change and no one could explain them. So I had them re-evaluate my transfer credit and explain to me what will or will not transfer, they said they would be able to do that without an official transcript. I submitted the last official transcript I obtained when I left school. They stated that wouldn't be sufficient. I was only trying to see what courses were transferable to determine where I would begin in the program. No, they wanted me to take the course and if the credits did transfer and cancel out the course already taken, then that was my loss.
When I had made enough noise they placed me with a PLA (prior learning advisor) to sort out my transcripts and academic plan. All this advisor did was tell me to compare the courses I had taken with the courses they offer and if the course description was similar to their course and the course was 3 or more credits with a grade of "C" or better then it would transfer. I was to compile a list of these courses and submit them to have my academic plan updated to remove the expected transfer credits. If the course did not actually transfer I had agreed to complete any non-transferable course before completing the degree. I thought this was fair, but that's not what happened.
I compiled the information, but was unable to compare the course to my transfer credits because their catalog doesn't even list the General Elective course listed within my chosen program, at all. I requested an "updated" catalog, since the one on line said 2005 and they stated that they revised it in 2006. I never received this catalog and was told that the one online is the latest catalog version. But they said they updated the curriculums in 2006.
This issue went on for approximately three weeks before I started feel like something wasn't right. No one wanted to answer my emails, telephone calls or questions. They were always pawning me off on other departments or personnel. So I started looking into the school a little more in-depth and I was amazed at how deep the lie goes.
I started from within the Virtual Campus and used their information as a reference point. I researched their accreditation using the link they have in the virtual campus website used by the students. However they require your transfer credits to come from schools that are. My former school, University of Detroit - Mercy is accredidated and backed by several boards, but CTU Online is not. So how is it that they can request this of transferring institutions but not have the same or higher level of accreditation? It was just another way to push the students further back in the program to milk more money out of them.
I inquired into how the graduation ceremony took place and was told I could come to the university (That's Colorado Technical University brick and mortar) and walk with the graduating class or I could attend the online graduation. CTU (brick and mortar) is not affiliated with CTU Online, so that was a flat out lie given to me by the admissions recruiter. I also researched former graduates of this school and was only able to find one person willing to speak well of this university and that person is still unemployed and it's not from a lack of effort on their part. Are they naive or is the degree worthless along with their professional credibility? You decide.
If you chose to attend this online university be conscience of what you're getting into. Where you graduated from is usually a reflection of your capabilities and professional character.
